Our mission
SeniorTechChoice exists because the tech guidance out there for adults 50+ is broken. Most review sites write for 25-year-old early adopters. They toss around jargon without explaining it, assume everyone is comfortable with technology, and bury the things that actually matter: How hard is this to set up? What happens when it breaks? Is the customer service any good?
We built this site to answer those questions honestly, in plain language, for people who just want useful information instead of a spec sheet.
Who edits this site: SeniorTechChoice is edited by Mike H., who founded the site after watching his own parents get lost in scattered, contradictory tech advice. Read more about Mike →
Our editorial commitment
Manufacturers don't pay us to rank their products favorably. When we include affiliate links, we disclose them clearly. Our analysis is driven by data: buyer feedback patterns, product specs, and independent reporting. Not by who pays us.
How we work
SeniorTechChoice publishes editorial articles written and edited by Mike H. — buying guides, product comparisons, how-to walkthroughs, and online-safety guides. We also run three free AI-powered tools that synthesize publicly available product data on demand:
- Research: Ask about any product and get an AI-synthesized review scored specifically for adults 50+, drawing on buyer feedback, specs, and consumer reporting.
- Compare: Add two or three products and get a side-by-side breakdown across 10 categories, plus a clear winner recommendation.
- Product Support: Describe your device and what you're trying to do, and get plain-language step-by-step instructions alongside relevant video tutorials.
Editorial articles and tool output follow different processes. For articles, AI drafts are reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by Mike before anything publishes — the full process is documented on our editorial standards page. Tool summaries are generated on demand from publicly available data and clearly labeled as AI-generated. Both approaches draw on the same principles: honest analysis, no manufacturer influence, and a focus on what actually matters for adults 50+.
For product scoring, we use our Senior Tech Score (STS), calculated across five criteria specifically relevant to older adults:
| Dimension | Weight | What we evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| Ease of setup & daily use | 25% | Out-of-box experience, interface clarity, time to first success |
| Accessibility & adaptability | 25% | Font sizing, contrast, hearing aid compatibility, voice control |
| Value & true cost | 20% | Purchase price, subscription traps, hidden fees, longevity |
| Safety & privacy | 15% | Data practices, scam resistance, emergency features |
| Support quality | 15% | Customer service wait times, help docs, return policy |
What we are — and aren't
What SeniorTechChoice is
An editorial publication with three free AI-powered tools. Buying guides, comparisons, how-to articles, and safety resources are written and edited by Mike H. The Research, Compare, and Product Support tools synthesize publicly available buyer feedback and product data into plain-language guidance for adults 50+.
What we are not
A hands-on product testing lab. We don't personally use every product we write about, and we're transparent about that. Our strength is editorial synthesis of publicly available data — with a named editor accountable for what goes live.
