Quick Answer

To make text bigger on iPhone, go to Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size and drag the slider to the right. For even larger text, go to Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Accessibility Sizes and turn it on, then use the extended slider.

What You Need

  • Any iPhone from iPhone 8 onwards running iOS 15 or later
  • No downloads or apps required — this uses built-in iPhone settings

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1

    Open Settings

Find the Settings app on your home screen — it looks like a grey square with two silver gears on it. Tap it to open. Settings is usually on your first home screen, but if you cannot find it, swipe down from the middle of your home screen and type "Settings" in the search bar.

  2. 2

    Tap Display & Brightness

Scroll down slightly from the top of Settings. You will see Display & Brightness in the list — it has an icon that looks like two letter A's, one small and one large. Tap it.

Tip: You do not need to scroll very far — Display & Brightness is usually in the first group of options, just below your name and Airplane Mode.

  3. 3

    Tap Text Size

Scroll down a little and tap Text Size. A new screen opens showing sample text at the top and a slider at the bottom with a small A on the left and a large A on the right.

  4. 4

Drag the slider to the right

Press your finger on the circle in the middle of the slider and slide it toward the right. As you drag, the sample text at the top of the screen updates in real time so you can see exactly how large the text will appear. When you are happy with the size, lift your finger — the setting is saved automatically.

Tip: There is no Save button — the setting takes effect as soon as you move the slider. You can always go back and adjust it if you want it larger or smaller.

  5. 5

Tap the back arrow to return to Settings

Tap the left-pointing arrow in the top-left corner of the screen to go back. Your new text size is now active across most apps on your iPhone. Open your Messages app or Mail to see the change in action.

For Even Larger Text — Accessibility Option

If the standard slider does not go large enough, unlock a second, bigger slider through Accessibility:

  1. Go to Settings → Accessibility
  2. Tap Display & Text Size
  3. Tap Larger Text
  4. Turn on the toggle next to Larger Accessibility Sizes
  5. Drag the new slider — it goes significantly larger than the standard one

While you are in this menu, you can also turn on Bold Text — this makes all text heavier and darker, which many people find easier to read even without increasing the size.
